The word emoji comes from Japanese words e (絵, “picture”) + moji (文字, “character”). Just putting this out there so we know the word has no relation to the English words emotion and emoticon.
Well, with that being said. There is a Non-profit organisation known as the Unicode Consortium. Now these guys are the real deal when it comes to the UNICODE, let’s leave the big grammar. The point here is, they are in charge of the publication, use and control of the emojis we have today.
Every year, a list of new emojis that will be integrated into all services are released and this year is no exemption. Consequently, a whooping 117 new emoji have been dished out to the Android and iOS community this year.
Some of the new emojis include: People Hugging🤗 Hugging Face, a pinched finger gesture, Mx. Claus, bison, mammoth, polar bear, dodo, lungs, heart and many more. Texting will become cooler with these, as there will be more emojis to express oneself.
Do note though, these emoji are released primary for devices running either android 11 or iOS 14. Though some texting apps like Whatsapp will integrate it into their emoji catalogue.
